Forests are critical to our well-being and quality of life, providing clean drinking water and clean air, wildlife habitat, recreation, and economic benefits. But, as our climate changes, will the forests of tomorrow look the same as they do today?
Jennifer Shakun, Manomet’s Applied Forest Scientist, will answer these questions and more at this special presentation. Join us to learn how our climate is changing, what it means for our forests, and how healthy forests are one of our best tools for combating the challenge of climate change.
An active cemetery and accredited arboretum, Newton Cemetery & Arboretum was founded in 1855 during the garden cemetery movement. It is a private, nonprofit organization serving all faiths in the Greater Boston area. The grounds are open to the public daily. As an urban forest, the Cemetery’s mature tree canopy plays an important role in mitigating the effects of climate change. The Cemetery has an active tree planting program to sustain its canopy coverage that assesses the survivability of newly planted trees in a changing climate and long term outcomes of planting decisions made now.
For 50 years, Manomet has been building science-based, cooperative solutions to environmental problems. From their world-renowned bird conservation work to their sustainable business solutions, they create successful, scalable strategies that engage people to sustain our world.
